To get the regular usage of any service, we must continue to do certain things. The bank account will be locked (inoperative or dormant status) if you do not open an account with the bank and make a transaction. Therefore in order to get all the services of the bank, you have to make regular transactions in the bank account. 1. In which branch should I apply to Activate?

The customer has to apply at the bank branch where the account is held i.e. at the bank where the locked bank account is located.

2. Should the customer go directly to the bank and apply?

Yes. The customer has to go to the bank in person and apply.

3. What documents should be attached with the application?

Along with the completed application, the customer’s Aadhaar card and bank account Pass Book should be attached and submitted. In some cases, other required documents should also be submitted by the customer.

4. Why is the bank account locked?

When a customer has not made a transaction in his bank account for a long time, the bank account is immediately locked to prevent anyone else from misusing the bank account and withdrawing money from the ATM and transferring money to another account.

5. When will the bank account be locked?

The account will be locked when the bank account has not been transacted for the last 6 months.

6. Will the account be locked even if the money has been deposited in the customer's account for the last 6 months?

Yes. The bank account will not be locked only if debit and credit transactions have taken place in the bank account for 6 months.

7. Can I withdraw money from a locked bank account?

No. If the bank account is locked, money cannot be withdrawn from the account.

8. Can I deposit money while my bank account is locked?

Anyone can deposit money in a bank account even if the bank account is locked.

9. Which service is not allowed in a locked bank account?

The following banking services are not available when the bank account is locked. i. It is not possible to make a transaction with an ATM card. ii. Cannot use internet banking service. iii. Cannot use mobile app service.

10. Why does money have to be deposited first to unlock?

As there is no transaction in the bank account for more than 6 months, the customer has to deposit a minimum amount (for example Rs. 100 / -) in order to continue the account.

11. How much will be charged to activate a bank account?

Account activation charges may vary from bank to bank. At least Rs. 100 / - to 200 / - will be charged.

12. Can I reactivate the account if it is locked after activation?

Yes, you can do it. Bank account will be locked again if there is no transactions for the last 6 months. You can apply and activate as above.

13. Can I activate my bank account if I have not used it for many years?

Activation can be done only if the bank account has not been used for a maximum of 10 years. If you have not used your bank account for more than 10 years, you should approach the bank manager and follow his instructions.
